Missionary Empowerment Scheme (MES) The Battle Axe (non-student arm of SMC) provides grants for missionaries to enable then embark on projects that can sustain them financially and encourage concentration at their duty posts through Missionary Empowerment Scheme (MES). Grants up to 80 % of projects’ total cost are given to missionaries on the platform of the MES. Half of the grant for specific project comes from a zonal chapter of TBA sponsoring the missionary. The other half is drawn from the central dedicated account for the scheme. These grants include technical assistance by a committee appointed by the zonal chapter to supervise successful execution of each project. Up to ten projects have been supported within and outside Nigeria in the past 5 years and we hope to do much more as God helps us in mobilizing funds for the scheme. We see this scheme as another strategy of supporting missionaries (sending) to expand the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Projects that could be supported: Mostly, small scale business activities with proof of not distracting the attention of the missionaries from their primary spiritual calling. Methods of application: Application should be routed through a zonal chapter of TBA to the Central Coordinating Unit at any period of the year. Applicants are expected to submit written feasible business proposals. However, there is limitation regarding number of projects that can be funded depending on available fund. Qualification for application: Awardees must have proven a good relationship with student-partners in the Student Missionary Support Scheme. Each applicant should provide evidence of having 20% of total cost of project before grant can be released.
