Welcome to 2010/2011 session of the Student Mission Club (SMC). To God be the glory for His abundant grace bestowed on SMC as a movement of God’s people mobilizing and equipping Christian students, as well as all members, for missions. October 1 of every year marks the beginning of a new programme calendar for SMC. Thus we would like to appreciate everyone that God has used to move this movement forward in the 2009/2010 planning year.

We thank God for His divine provision and protection enjoyed during the past planning year and we pray that God Almighty will continue to sustain us in this His Kingdom business. May God greatly bless your labour of love and renew your strength for more exploit always.

Beloved of God, our work theme for this planning year is ‘Partners in Progress’ - I Samuel 30: 18 - 25.  The challenges facing evangelical missions in our generation seem to be increasing on a daily basis. For some years back, the number of Christians actively involved in missions has been on the decline. Withdrawal of missionaries from their God-assigned fields is regular news. More and more believers shy from their ‘first love’ in missions. Yet as Christians, we pray earnestly (perhaps many with lip service) that the kingdom of our God should march on and more souls be won to His glory.    In this planning year, we see the Lord raising more people as partners in SMC’s operations to strengthen the hands of several evangelical Christian missionaries labouring in hard grounds. It is customary for many Christians to believe that the place of partnership with Christian missionaries is minor as far as world evangelization is concerned. In the bible reference for the theme, we saw a division of David’s army into two; a team went to the battle and the other took care of the home front. While those that fought at the battle front claimed superiority David insisted that both teams were

essential in sustaining his army. Thus, he declared that the booty of the war should be shared equally. We pray that God will open the eyes of many Christians to the importance and benefits of effective partnership in mission efforts.

An important key to a successful and rewarding involvement in missions’ partnership is to put oneself in the shoes of the person (missionary) with the needs. Imagine you are the one in desperate need of prayer support against a demonic attack or in need of funds for ministry or personal use. How would you expect people to respond? We generally have the belief that the Gospel is spreading more to different places that have not received it before, but the reality is that the pace at which this is done is slow due to the following challenges:

  • Fewer hands as missionaries on the job, as more Christians would prefer to be Pastors in comfortable Churches
  • More lands to conquer as a result of increasing withdrawal of missionaries from already conquered lands (mission fields)
  • Increasing financial challenges due to falling economic situations in many countries
  • Increasing opposition by Islam’s hold on many converts, especially in rural areas
  • Reducing number of individuals and families committed to supporting missionaries financially, with prayers, materials and other moral supports.

................Major breakthroughs in.................. 2009/ 2010session:

  1. Renewal of many Christian students zeal for mission support through Student Mission Congress in Southwest Nigeria – Oyo-Osun , Ogun- Lagos and Ondo-Ekiti Stat

Initiation of more support teams among Christian students in Nigeria at Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, University of Ado-Ekiti (UNAAD),  The University of Education, Ikere Ekiti, Lagos State University (LASU).

  1. Initiation of SMC at Kaduna State to Northern Nigeria
  2. More partners joined the work

Beloved of God, it is our desire that the Lord would count every reader of this message among those that shall be greatly revived and inspired for better service in missions.
May the Lord God greatly bless and reward your labour of love as you pray, determine, plan and save to be part of SMC activities outlined for this our planning year.
